Back To One

On my way to work yesterday morning I drove past a street all to familiar to me. On that street is a house. Inside that house is an efficiency apartment. That efficiency apartment (which I loved!) is the very first apartment I ever had. I now live less than a quarter-mile from that apartment.

Not long ago I met a young woman who is the current tenant, and everything I remember about that apartment (and loved!) is the same.

I moved into that apartment 32 years ago. Now I'm right back where I started from, in a city I swore to God I would NEVER return to, and it is very unsettling.

Die, Demons, Die

"Psychologically, I will not have to seek far if I decide to kill myself, because in my mind and heart I am more ready for this than for the unplanned daily tribulations that mark off the mornings and afternoons."
