In order to (ski) patrol every season members of the National Ski Patrol must attend a refresher for both medical skills, including CPR, as well as participate in an actual chairlift evacuation.
As an instructor, I am at the ski and snowboard lodge tonight with other instructors on our patrol doing our medical refresher. In two weeks all of the instructors (plus a LOT of volunteers) will be putting the rest of the patrol through their paces on the medical stuff, then, after the resort fires up one chairlift, the entire patrol hops on board and the "rescues" begin by "rescuing" each other.
My heart just is not in it tonight. I really would rather not be here.
...and so it goes...
