I spent the better part of Sunday, July 1st organizing my digital life; photographs specifically. I found a program that will search whatever location you specify, including subfolders, on your computer's hard drive and find 100% duplicates on the actual image, not the file name.
After downloading everything from all the clouds I use, I let it run. After about an hour, I noticed that, up to that point, the program had scanned almost 12,000 files and within that number scanned there were just over 5,000 duplicates. Say WHAT!?!
I paused the program and started the save/delete process. As my life flashed before my eyes, it wasn't long before emotions took over - happy AND sad.
Seeing the many stages of my life, how each one was carved separately, was a revelation to me. Sure, I know there are stages to life, yet it never occurred to me until now that it could be so visible in photographs. The lines, the fractures, the bits and pieces, love and hate - was so shocking to see.
After sifting through less than half of the first 5,000 duplicates, I had to set it aside for another day because while the intentions to organize my digital life is admirable, it will take a long, long time to complete.
